GLS Germany and hey circle launch a partnership

GLS

Through a sales partnership, GLS business customers can find out about hey circle's reusable shipping options as an alternative to the single-use cardboard box.

GLS Germany and hey circle are entering a strategic partnership. The aim of the cooperation is to inform GLS customers about hey circle's reusable shipping options and so create a reusable alternative to the single-use cardboard box.

GLS Germany is adding hey circle's complete packaging range to its portfolio

Parcel carrier GLS Germany tested hey circle products in advance

The reusable shipping boxes and reusable shipping bags from hey circle were tested thoroughly at GLS. The conclusion: they are at least as easy to handle as conventional cardboard parcels. hey circle's products not only meet the GLS requirements, they also stand out for running well on conveyor belts, needing little maintenance, resisting water and dirt and being suitable for semi-automated warehouses.

Reusable shipping packaging in many sizes and with transparent costs

  • The cost of shipping through the GLS network is identical for single-use and reusable packaging.
  • The monthly rental cost of a reusable package is comparable to the purchase price of a newly produced single-use cardboard box.

Sustainability has been at the core of our DNA for many years and has long been part of everyday practice. That makes us all the more pleased about the partnership with hey circle, through which we extend our product portfolio with an innovative service by including reusable packaging. Together we save resources and spread the concept of forward-looking shipping solutions.

The long-lasting shipping boxes are suitable for every shipping case

“We are delighted about the partnership with GLS! Together we are committed to sustainable parcel shipping and reduce waste and CO2 emissions with every shipment. We want to make it easy for companies to take part in our reusable shipping solutions, so that we achieve the greatest possible impact”, sums up Doris Diebold, Founder and CEO of hey circle. “What matters is the shared approach that lets us scale the solution; the cooperation with GLS fits well into our growth strategy.”

hey circle bags and boxes can do more than conventional cardboard boxes

  • Reuse and recycling:Reusable at least 100 times (around 50 cycles)Recycling into PP and PET after end of lifeOver 50 cycles, up to 76 % less CO2 emissions and 94 % less waste*
  • Light and robust:Honeycomb inner panels for lightness and strengthIntegrated zip, no adhesive tape requiredLabels can be removed without residueRefurbishment of slightly damaged products
  • A perfect fit:Retaining straps and eight different sizes for an optimal fitNo shipping of air, less padding material needed

More than 4.5 billion parcels are sent in Germany every year, so far mainly in single-use cardboard boxes

One reusable package replaces up to 50 single-use packages. How many reusable packages a company needs at the same time differs from case to case. The number depends, for example, on the total number of shipments, the share of end customers who choose reuse as an option, how long the return deadlines are and what buffer is planned in the warehouse. Customer advisers at GLS and at hey circle help to work out the exact requirement.

* Reusing packaging reduces CO2 emissions and waste. The independent environmental consultancy Ökopol calculated the CO2 saving potential in 2023. Among other things, the popular hey circle Box L was tested against a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Empty returns and production in Asia are taken into account here. hey circle applies strict criteria of its own to the calculation: in the life cycle assessment of the shipping bags, for example, no cardboard boxes are used for comparison, only single-use plastic and paper mailing bags.
