Shipping without single-use cardboard: Drykorn relies on reusable packaging in its intralogistics

DRYKORN

The fashion label Drykorn relies on the reusable shipping solution from hey circle in order to reduce waste and save CO2 emissions.

Mountains of single-use cardboard were a logistical challenge for the stores

The fashion brand Drykorn runs two busy shops in Berlin and supplies them regularly with new stock. A side effect of these deliveries was that a lot of shipping packaging was left over, and storing and disposing of it was a challenge for the staff on site - especially when the paper containers were already full. The volume of waste was considerable. Drykorn is also known to many as a company that works hard to keep its own footprint as small as possible. That was the impulse to look for reusable alternatives to transport packaging, with one thing in mind: shipping without single-use cardboard.

Particular requirements in intralogistics shaped the choice of product:
  1. Transport had to work flexibly with the usual parcel carriers, so lightweight packaging that is easy to store was needed
  2. Larger quantities of clothing cannot be transported in bags alone, so the search covered not only reusable shipping bags but also boxes as an alternative to large cardboard boxes.
  3. To protect the goods, the boxes had to be closable and dirt-repellent.
hey circle shipping boxes are easy for parcel carriers to handle and can be reused many times

Today, around 230 reusable shipping boxes and bags from hey circle are in use for sending goods to the two Drykorn stores in Berlin and the branch in Lahr, as well as to logistics and other partners. Shipping is handled by UPS. For the return journey, the empty packaging is folded and sent back in bundles so that it is ready for its next use. Individual items have already been sent out around 40 times. Over their life cycle, the hey circle shipping packages are intended to replace around 50 single-use cardboard boxes - but they can of course also be used beyond that.

The transparent CO2 figures were what tipped the scales for us in choosing hey circle as our supplier.

Drykorn sustainability team

Switching to a reusable shipping solution delivers measurable results quickly

The hey circle XL boxes in use alone have already saved around 1.6 tonnes of waste and 1.75 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

“Handling the hey circle boxes works so smoothly that there is really nothing to say about it. The boxes with the self-erecting sides in particular are popular with our packers. The packaging with plenty of room is used most often, which is why we can also imagine using an even bigger box,” is how the CSR team describes their practical use.

“Drykorn was a customer from the very first hour and put their trust in us early on. We are in constant contact and are grateful for the feedback we were able to feed into our product development at an early stage. We are delighted to be able to support Drykorn in reaching their sustainability goals,” says Doris Diebold, founder of hey circle.
