Reusable shipping boxes for service technician supply

Service technician supply

When a part is missing at the customer site, every hour counts: spare parts go out at short notice from head office to your technicians in the field.

With reusable shipping boxes from hey circle this hub-and-spoke supply becomes a predictable loop - fast shipping, better protection, fewer piles of cardboard across many job sites.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % less CO2
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.

How the loop works

Your head office or branch picks the spare part and ships it in the hey circle box straight to the technician's next job site - same day or next day. The box then travels back: filled with the faulty part for repair, or empty and folded flat. It lasts around 50 cycles on average.

Because the spare part flow mainly runs in one direction, the box often comes back empty. The loop then pays off through bundled empty returns: collect boxes folded flat at the branch or collection point and send them back together - which keeps parcel postage low.

  • Pack & close

    • Pick the spare part at head office and pack it safely inside the box
    • Close the box with the zip or the lift-off lid, with no tape at all
    • Security seal for high-value spare parts
  • Ship

    • Straight to the technician's next job site - same day or next day
    • Tested and approved by all parcel carriers, without surcharge, even for short-notice delivery
    • Dimensionally stable and padded: tested with up to 400 kg stacking pressure and in a drop test from 80 cm
  • Return

    • The faulty part goes back for repair in the same box
    • Or collect the folded boxes at the branch and collection point and send them back empty in bulk
    • Fold it flat or refill it right away - no cardboard or filling material waste, around 50 cycles on average
  • Predictable hub-and-spoke

Spare parts flow regularly from head office to many technicians. With a large technician workforce and a high shipment frequency, a reusable loop pays off quickly.

  • Urgency meets robustness

Downtime at the customer site is expensive - shipping has to be fast and safe. Dimensionally stable boxes with padding protect case-sized spare parts better than yet another cardboard box, tested with up to 400 kg stacking pressure and in a drop test from 80 cm.

  • Many decentralised sites

With a large number of decentralised technicians and job sites, single-use packaging adds up to considerable volume. On average you can cut packaging costs by 53 %.

  • An honest assessment

The spare part flow mostly runs from head office to the technician, and the return flow is occasional (faulty parts). The loop therefore pays off through the folding box and bundled empty returns, not through a daily full round trip.

  • Regulation

The PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026. From 2030 it sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. For deliveries between sites of one company within the same member state, the PPWR requires reuse from 2030, again excluding cardboard boxes. Whether your shipping is affected depends on format and supply relationship - we are happy to check this with you.

Frequently asked questions

How do field service technicians get their spare parts?

Head office ships the part in a reusable box straight to the job site, and the box then travels back - filled with the faulty part or folded flat and empty. One loop instead of a cardboard box per shipment, for up to 50 cycles.

How do the boxes come back when shipping only runs one way?

Either filled with the faulty part for repair - or folded flat, collected at the branch or pick-up point and returned in bundles. That keeps parcel postage low even when the box travels empty.

Does the box give enough protection for case-sized spare parts?

Dimensionally stable boxes with padding, tested up to 400 kg stacking pressure and in a drop test from 80 cm - better protection than a plain cardboard box.

Does it pay off without a daily two-way shuttle flow?

Yes, if enough shipments add up: the benefit comes from the frequency and the bundled empty returns, not from a symmetrical back and forth.

How long does a hey circle shipping box or bag last?

Our reusable hey circle shipping packaging lasts an average of 50 cycles, so one reusable packaging replaces 50 single-use packages. The service life varies by product type and is stated in the respective product information.

We continuously test this service life with ping-pong shipping through various parcel carriers.

We keep developing our products further to increase their service life.
