Reusable shipping packaging for IT leasing take-back

IT leasing take-back

When a leasing contract ends, many devices come back at once: laptops, PCs, smartphones.

With the foldable reusable shipping boxes from hey circle you organise this collection in bulk, traceably and in a way that protects the remarketing value of the devices on arrival.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % less CO2
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.

How the loop works

To be clear up front: a leasing take-back is not a circulating loop within the same customer relationship. At the end of the contract the hardware goes back once into remarketing or refurbishment - not back to the original customer. That is why we deliberately do not talk about a shuttle here, but about a bundled, well-organised collection.

Economically this pays off above all with large, predictable rollout volumes. For individual returns of small quantities, single-use often remains more practical - we say that openly so that you do your calculations in the right place.

A note on servers: laptops, PCs and smartphones are classic parcel freight. Servers are larger and heavier and only partly run through parcel networks - the benefit of reusable packaging depends on the device here, and we will look at what suits your device mix in a conversation.

  • Pack & close

    • The foldable boxes go to the customer packed flat - the empty outward journey costs little volume
    • On site the old devices are packed with impact protection
    • Close the box with the zip or lid, and add a security seal for devices whose data has not yet been erased
  • Ship

    • Stick on the shipping label and hand over the boxes in bulk
    • Laptops, PCs and smartphones are classic parcel freight: tested and approved by all parcel carriers, shipping without a surcharge
    • Servers are larger and heavier and only partly run through parcel networks - we will look at your device mix together
  • Return

    • The filled boxes come back to the technology centre in bulk - protected against impact and traceable
    • At the centre the boxes are emptied, folded flat and stand ready for the next rollout
    • Reuse happens across your rollouts - on average 50 cycles per box - not within a single customer relationship
  • Bundled collection

With complete fleet renewals, many devices come back at once. Foldable, stackable reusable boxes make exactly this bundling efficient and easy to organise cleanly.

  • Protect remarketing value

Every device that arrives damaged loses resale value. Dimensionally stable boxes, tested with up to 400 kg stacking load and in a drop test from 80 cm, bring the hardware into remarketing undamaged.

  • Data protection in transit

Devices that have been collected often still hold data that is only erased at the centre. Lockable, sealable boxes turn the return transport into a compliance building block.

  • Lower packaging costs

On average 53 % lower packaging costs - the lever works when the collection volumes are large and predictable.

  • Evidence for sustainability

Asset recovery contributes to CO2 and resource targets. Reusable packaging instead of single-use cardboard delivers verifiable figures for that: according to the Ökopol life cycle assessment (2023), the hey circle Box L saves 94 % packaging waste and 76 % CO2 over 50 cycles compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Suited to EcoVadis and CSRD reporting.

Interzero: asset recovery and remarketing

Interzero runs IT take-back, remarketing and data erasure as part of a large circular economy group. In laptop shipping, Interzero saved 73 % of its packaging costs with the hey circle reusable boxes - evidence that reusable packaging also pays off where devices are collected and refurbished.

At Interzero we pursue the vision of a world without waste. To put this vision into practice in the logistics processes of our IT remarketing activities as well, the reusable shipping boxes from hey circle are a sustainable and future-proof option.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a closed loop like in refurbishment?

No - and we say so openly. A leasing take-back is a one-off collection at the end of the contract, not a circulating loop within the same customer relationship. The boxes are instead reused across many rollouts.

At what point does reusable packaging pay off here?

Above all with large, plannable rollout volumes. For individual very small returns, single-use can remain more practical - we will help you judge that threshold realistically.

Does this work for servers too?

Only partly. Laptops, PCs and smartphones are classic parcel freight. Servers are larger and heavier and only run through parcel networks to a limited extent - we'll look at your device mix together.

How is data protection handled during collection?

Boxes can be closed and sealed with a zipper or lift-off lid - important when devices are transported before being wiped at the centre. The plastic surfaces are also easy to wipe clean.

How does secure take-back of leased IT equipment work?

Foldable boxes go out to the customer empty, are filled on site with the old devices, closed and collected back to the technology centre in bundles - impact-protected and trackable.

How can you save with reusables?

Our team will be happy to advise you on the benefits of reusable shipping packaging for your shipping loop.
