Reusable shipping for footwear brands

Footwear brands

From your automated central warehouse to hundreds of independent footwear specialist stores: collection changes and repeat orders run at high frequency and on a seasonal cycle.

With reusable shipping packaging from hey circle, that supply flow becomes a loop instead of a mountain of cardboard - dimensionally stable, foldable and carrying your brand.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % fewer CO2 emissions
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

How the loop works

You pick the collection or a repeat order of individual sizes and colours in your central warehouse and deliver it to the footwear specialist store. Shoe boxes are dimensionally stable and standardised (approx. 1-2 kg per pair) - a predictable small shipment profile that packs well into reusable packaging.

To be clear: this is not a daily full shuttle service. The benefit comes from the high shipment frequency on the outbound leg and the bundled, foldable empty return.

  • Pack & close

    • Pack the collection or a repeat order of individual sizes and colours into the hey circle box
    • Close it with a 1-zipper, 2-zipper or lift-off lid - with no adhesive tape at all
    • Stick the shipping label onto the full-surface label holder
  • Ship

    • Shipping through the normal parcel process, with no bulky goods surcharge
    • Dimensionally stable: tested with up to 400 kg stacking load and in a drop test from 80 cm
    • Tested and approved by all parcel carriers, runs through the normal sorting process
  • Send back

    • Fold the empty boxes flat to save space and send them back to the central warehouse in bundles at low cost
    • Unsold seasonal stock or a faulty return travels back in the same box
    • Back at the warehouse the box can be filled again straight away, for 50 cycles on average
  • Seasonal rhythm

Collection changes create peak loads, with repeat orders running continuously in between. A reusable system that scales seasonally delivers more benefit than the single-use cardboard box with every shipment.

  • Dimensionally stable protection

Shoe boxes arrive at the specialist retailer in poor condition if they have been crushed. Dimensionally stable boxes are tested with up to 400 kg stacking load and in a drop test from 80 cm - your goods arrive undamaged.

  • Packaging costs

At high shipment frequency every single-use cardboard box adds up. In the reusable loop you cut your packaging costs by an average of 53 %.

  • Less waste

The loop avoids up to 94 % of waste and up to 76 % of CO2 - relevant for listed and export-heavy brands with sustainability reports.

  • Regulation (PPWR)

The PPWR obligations apply from 12 August 2026, and from 2030 a reuse quota of at least 40 % applies to transport packaging. Cardboard remains exempt from the reuse targets, the other obligations still apply - if you switch now, you are prepared.

Reference: hub-and-spoke at WMF

There is not yet a confirmed hey circle reference customer from the footwear industry. WMF is the reference for the distribution pattern you share: the manufacturer of tableware and household goods supplies its stores with a reusable system instead of single-use cardboard. Important context: WMF is our reference for the store replenishment use case (use case cluster hub-and-spoke distribution) - that is, for the central warehouse to point of sale logistics pattern - not for the footwear industry itself.

With the reusable boxes we are taking an important step towards sustainable, future-proof logistics processes.

Frequently asked questions

How does the packaging come back?

Because deliveries mainly run in one direction, you fold the empty boxes flat and send them back to the central warehouse in bundles at low cost. Bundled, the return trip through the parcel network pays off; a single empty box does not. The return trip is not free once a parcel carrier is involved.

Do the goods arrive undamaged?

Yes - the dimensionally stable boxes are tested for up to 400 kg of stacking pressure and in a drop test from 80 cm.

Is it worth it without an automated large-scale warehouse?

What matters is how often you supply your retail partners, not the size of your warehouse: if you regularly supply the same specialist stores, you benefit from the first loop onwards.

How does sustainable store replenishment work in the footwear trade?

Through a hub-and-spoke loop: the collection goes out in reusable packaging, the empty box folds flat and comes back in bundles, with 53 % lower packaging costs on average.

Does this work with our parcel carrier?

hey circle packaging has been tested and approved by all parcel carriers and runs through the normal sorting process with no surcharge.
