Reusable shipping for fabric and interior samples
Fabric and interior samples
Sample books, sample rings and sample cases are expensive sales tools that have to come back anyway: back from the interior decorator or straight on to the next consultation.
That loan loop is exactly the use case for reusable packaging - not the single fabric swatch in an envelope. With reusable shipping packaging from hey circle, the collection travels protected and without a new cardboard box on every round.
Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.
How the loop works
The sample collection goes out in hey circle packaging to specialist retail, interior architects or contract interior projects. After viewing it comes back in the same packaging or moves straight on to the next address. The packaging stays in circulation - 50 times on average.
Because the collection and the packaging travel in both directions anyway, no additional logistics step is created. If packaging is returned empty after all, it can be folded flat and sent in bundles - which keeps the parcel postage per unit low.

Fabric and interior samples & reusables: a dream team
-
The right use case
Individual fabric swatches in letter format stay with the recipient and do not come back - no reusable packaging is needed for that. Sample books, sample rings and sample cases, on the other hand, are expensive loan goods with a fixed return leg. That is exactly where the loop pays off.
-
Collections stay presentable for longer
Sample books are heavy and sensitive at the edges, and a crushed cover costs you impact with the customer. Dimensionally stable packaging protects the collection over many rounds - which reduces reprints and complaints in specialist retail.
-
A year-round flow instead of a season
The change of collection alone does not carry the loop, that would only be one or two waves a year. Reusable packaging becomes economical through the sum of all specialist retail partners and through the contract business, where sample cases circulate all year round.
-
Cut waste and costs
Every sample round in single-use cardboard creates waste at the specialist retailer, who has to dispose of it themselves. According to the Ökopol life cycle assessment (2023), the hey circle Box L saves 94 % packaging waste and 76 % CO2 over 50 cycles compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Packaging costs fall by 53 % on average, based on real customer calculations.
-
Regulation
The PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026. From 2030 it sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. Whether your shipping is affected depends on format and supply relationship - we are happy to check this with you. Setting up the loop now means you gain experience before customers or regulators ask for it.

Sample loop with genuine loan goods
There is currently no publicly named hey circle reference for sample shipping in the interiors sector. Individual providers already work with loan sample models in which the collection is explicitly made available for viewing and expected back - so the return leg already exists, only the packaging has been single-use so far.
Two roles are addressed: the sample service or internal sales team that packs and takes back the collections every day, and the sales or executive management that decides on collection costs and brand presence with specialist retailers.
Frequently asked questions
We send individual fabric samples in envelopes - is that a case for reusable packaging?
Honest answer: no. A single letter-format sample stays with the recipient and does not come back - a reusable box is neither necessary nor economical for that.
The use case sits one level up: with sample books, sample rings and sample cases. These are expensive, used repeatedly and have to come back anyway. It is exactly this lending loop that dimensionally stable, foldable reusable packaging supports well.
How do we get sample cases and sample books back from specialist stores?
With loaned samples the return trip is part of the model anyway - the collection goes back after viewing or straight on to the next consultation. The box travels in both directions, so the return transport is not extra effort but the existing process.
As soon as a parcel carrier is involved, its usual fees apply - the return trip is low-cost, not free. Boxes returned empty fold flat and can be sent in bundles, which brings down the cost per box.
Our collections only change once or twice a year - is the loop still worth it?
The collection change alone does not carry the loop - that is the honest assessment for this sector. Reusable packaging becomes economical through two other flows: the sum of all specialist retail partners supplied in rotation, and the ongoing contract business.
Sample cases for interior designers and contract specifiers in particular circulate all year round, not seasonally. Once you make this flow visible, the shipping volume is usually much larger than expected.
Can the boxes handle heavy sample books and collection folders?
Yes. The boxes are dimensionally stable, tested with up to 400 kg stacking load and in the drop test from 80 cm; the approved stacking load is between 120 and 300 kg depending on the product. Sample books and folders are compact and heavy - exactly the load under which cardboard gives up after a few cycles.
Because sample collections are on the road several times anyway, the longer service life has a direct effect: fewer damaged collections, fewer reprints, fewer complaints from specialist stores.
How long does a hey circle shipping box or bag last?
Our reusable hey circle shipping packaging lasts an average of 50 cycles, so one reusable packaging replaces 50 single-use packages. The service life varies by product type and is stated in the respective product information.
We continuously test this service life with ping-pong shipping through various parcel carriers.
We keep developing our products further to increase their service life.
