Reusable packaging for electronic component supply

Electronic components

Circuit boards, connectors, passive and electromechanical components go out on fixed rounds to EMS plants and assembly manufacturers - regularly, predictably, to the same addresses.

With reusable shipping boxes from hey circle this becomes a closed loop: robust protection on the way out, a bundled return trip, no mountain of cardboard in goods-in.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % less CO2
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.

How the loop works

The component manufacturer ships in dimensionally stable, padded reusable boxes to its regular customers. After unpacking, the boxes are folded flat, collected and sent back in bundles. After that, every box is ready for use again straight away - on average for 50 cycles.

  • Pack & close

    • Place the components safely padded inside the box
    • Close the box all round with the zip or lid for tamper-evident protection
    • Secure the shipment with a security seal against unnoticed opening
  • Ship

    • Stick the shipping label onto the label holder
    • Hand the parcel over to your parcel carrier as usual - in the normal parcel network, without a surcharge
    • Conveyor-ready: the boxes run through the standard sorting process at parcel hubs
  • Return

    • Unpack at the plant - no packaging waste, no disposal in goods-in
    • Fold the boxes flat, collect them and send them back in bundles
    • Ready for the next delivery as soon as they return
  • Predictable rounds

Regular EMS partners and regular frequency - ideal conditions for the loop. The more often the box runs, the bigger the advantage over single-use.

  • 3 x savings

According to the Ökopol life cycle assessment (2023), the hey circle Box L saves 94 % packaging waste and 76 % CO2 over 50 cycles compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Packaging costs fall by 53 % on average, based on real customer calculations - bundling keeps the return trip economical.

  • Protection

Sensitive parts need more than cardboard: dimensionally stable boxes with padding, tested with up to 400 kg stacking load and in an 80 cm drop test.

  • Secure & measurable

Security seals make unnoticed opening visible - important for high-value components. Cycles and savings are recorded via GRAI code, ESG reporting included.

  • Regulation

The PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026. From 2030 it sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. Whether your shipping is affected depends on format and supply relationship - we are happy to check this with you.

Frequently asked questions

How are electronic components delivered safely to assembly manufacturers?

In dimensionally stable reusable boxes with padding and a security seal: robustly tested (up to 400 kg stacking load, drop test from 80 cm) and shipped through the standard parcel network without a surcharge.

How do reusable boxes come back from the EMS plant?

Folded flat, collected and sent back bundled - bundling keeps the empty return shipment economical.

How does a supplier keep track of reusable packaging across several plants?

Through the hey circle IT system with GRAI code: every packaging item is uniquely identifiable, and stock levels and cycles per plant can be analysed.

How can you save with reusables?

Our team will be happy to advise you on the benefits of reusable shipping packaging for your shipping loop.
