Reusable shipping boxes for instrument calibration

Calibration services

Measuring and test equipment travels back and forth between the industrial site and the calibration lab: out for DAkkS-accredited calibration, back calibrated.

With reusable shipping boxes from hey circle this recurring round trip becomes a closed loop - with the protection precision instruments deserve, instead of a single-use cardboard box per cycle.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % less CO2
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.

How the loop works

The industrial site sends the measuring device to the calibration lab in the hey circle box. After calibration the device goes back in the same box - protected all the way. The box is then ready for use again, for around 50 cycles.

Because device and box travel together in both directions, there is hardly any empty return shipping. If boxes do go back empty, the rule is: collect them folded flat and return them in bulk, which keeps parcel postage low.

  • Pack & close

    • Pack the measuring device padded and secure inside the hey circle box
    • Close the box with the zip or the lift-off lid - no tape at all
    • Security seal for high-value precision instruments
  • Ship

    • Stick the shipping label onto the label holder and send the device to the calibration lab with your usual parcel carrier
    • Tested and approved by all parcel carriers, shipped without surcharge
    • Dimensionally stable and padded - tested with up to 400 kg stacking pressure, in a drop test from 80 cm and with an approved stacking load of 120 to 300 kg depending on the product
  • Return

    • The calibrated device comes back in the same box - the return leg is built in
    • Because device and box travel together in both directions, there is hardly any empty return shipping
    • If a box does come back empty: collect them folded flat and send them back in bulk, which keeps parcel postage low
  • High protection needs

Scales, pressure gauges and sensors are shock-sensitive precision instruments that tie up a lot of capital. Dimensionally stable boxes with padding protect better than yet another cardboard box - tested with up to 400 kg stacking pressure, in a drop test from 80 cm and with an approved stacking load of 120 to 300 kg depending on the product.

  • An honest look at frequency

A single device is usually calibrated only every 12 months - so the frequency per instrument is low. Reuse therefore becomes economical through the total volume of all customer devices: across many customers and sites, a predictable, recurring stream of shipments comes together.

  • Costs across the total volume

Add up all the calibration shipments across your site network and the saving becomes real: according to the Ökopol life cycle assessment (2023), the hey circle Box L saves 94 % packaging waste and 76 % CO2 over 50 cycles compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Packaging costs fall by 53 % on average, based on real customer calculations.

  • Fewer transport damages

A well thought-out reusable loop reduces transport damage to precision measuring instruments - and with it production downtime at the customer caused by late or damaged devices.

  • Regulation

The PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026. From 2030 it sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. Whether your shipping is affected depends on format and supply relationship - we are happy to check this with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is reusable packaging worth it with only one calibration per device per year?

Yes - but not per individual device, rather across the total volume: add up all calibration shipments from all customers and sites and you get a predictable, recurring shipping flow in which the loop pays off.

How does the box protect shock-sensitive precision instruments?

Dimensionally stable boxes with padding, tested up to 400 kg stacking pressure and in a drop test from 80 cm, with an approved stacking load of 120 to 300 kg depending on the product.

How does the box come back?

Usually filled with the calibrated device - device and box travel together in both directions. If a box goes back empty, it is collected and returned in bundles, which keeps parcel postage low.

How do you ship measuring instruments safely for calibration?

In a dimensionally stable, padded reusable box that protects the instrument on the way to the lab and back again after calibration - one loop instead of a single-use cardboard box per calibration cycle.

How long does a hey circle shipping box or bag last?

Our reusable hey circle shipping packaging lasts an average of 50 cycles, so one reusable packaging replaces 50 single-use packages. The service life varies by product type and is stated in the respective product information.

We continuously test this service life with ping-pong shipping through various parcel carriers.

We keep developing our products further to increase their service life.

How can you save with reusables?

Our team will be happy to advise you on the benefits of reusable shipping packaging for your shipping loop.
