Reusable shipping for apparel brands

Apparel brands

Clothing is light, flat and robust in transit - a simple cardboard box is often enough. That is exactly why reusable packaging is not about protection for you, but about collection rhythm, packaging costs and the PPWR.

With reusable shipping packaging from hey circle, the cardboard box you would otherwise throw away becomes a system that carries your brand and comes back many times over.

94 % less packaging waste
76 % less CO2
53 % lower packaging costs
50 cycles per packaging on average

Box L compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material, calculated over 50 cycles. Data source: Ökopol life cycle assessment. The 53 % are an average from real customer calculations.

How the loop works

You pick the collection in your central warehouse and deliver to your own stores and independent retail partners on a seasonal rhythm. Clothing is a classic small shipment profile: light, flat and easy to pack in dimensionally stable packaging - less complicated than shoes or liquid cosmetics.

To be clear: this is not a daily full shuttle service. The benefit comes from the regular collection rhythm on the outbound leg and the bundled, foldable empty return.

  • Pack & close

    • Lay the collection stock flat into the hey circle shipping bag or box
    • Close the packaging tamper-evidently with the zipper - with no adhesive tape at all
    • Stick the shipping label onto the full-surface label holder
  • Ship

    • Ship collection stock through the normal parcel process, with no bulky goods surcharge
    • Tested and approved by all parcel carriers, runs through the normal sorting process
    • Deliveries to your own stores and retail partners on the collection rhythm
  • Return

    • Fold the empty packaging flat to save space and send it back to the central warehouse in bundles
    • Bundled, the parcel return leg pays off - on the collection rhythm a worthwhile collected quantity builds up quickly
    • Back at the warehouse the packaging can be filled again straight away, for 50 cycles on average
  • Collection rhythm

Your deliveries run predictably several times a year on the collection rhythm, plus ongoing replenishment. Across many shipments, reusable beats the single-use cardboard box - regardless of the fact that the goods themselves are robust.

  • Packaging costs rather than protection

Honestly, clothing does not need high-performance protection - a cardboard box is usually enough. The lever is elsewhere: every single-use cardboard box costs money and is thrown away. In the loop you cut your packaging costs by an average of 53 %.

  • Less waste

According to the Ökopol life cycle assessment (2023), the hey circle Box L saves 94 % packaging waste and 76 % CO2 over 50 cycles compared with a single-use cardboard box of the same size containing 80 % recycled material. Concrete figures for the sustainability reports that large fashion houses already quantify.

  • Regulation (PPWR)

Particularly relevant if you supply your own stores: the PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026. From 2030 it sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. For deliveries between sites of one company within the same member state, the PPWR requires reuse from 2030, again excluding cardboard boxes. Whether your shipping is affected depends on format and supply relationship - we are happy to check this with you.

  • Brand presence

From 1,000 units we produce your packaging in your corporate design with a full-surface label holder - the delivery to your store or retail partner becomes a brand touchpoint instead of a plain brown box.

Reference: hub-and-spoke at WMF

WMF is the reference for the distribution pattern you share: the manufacturer of tableware and household goods supplies its stores with a reusable system instead of single-use cardboard. Important context: WMF is our reference for the store replenishment use case (use case cluster hub-and-spoke distribution) - that is, for the central warehouse to store logistics pattern - not for the fashion industry itself.

With the reusable boxes we are taking an important step towards sustainable, future-proof logistics processes.

Frequently asked questions

How does the packaging come back?

Because delivery mainly runs in one direction, you fold the packaging flat and send it back to the central warehouse bundled and at low cost. Bundled, the parcel return leg pays off; a single empty packaging does not. It is not free of charge as soon as a parcel carrier is involved.

Clothing is robust - is reusable packaging worth it at all?

Yes, but for a different reason than with fragile goods: the lever is not protection but packaging costs (53 % lower on average), waste and PPWR readiness.

What does the PPWR mean for us if we supply our own stores?

From 2030 the PPWR sets reuse targets for certain transport packaging such as plastic crates and pallets; for deliveries between sites of one company within the same member state it requires reuse. Boxes made of cardboard or paperboard are exempt. The other PPWR obligations still apply.

How does hub-and-spoke supply in the fashion industry work with reusable packaging instead of single-use cardboard?

Through a closed loop: the collection goes out in reusable packaging, the empty packaging folds flat and comes back in bundles, an average of 50 cycles and 53 % lower packaging costs.

Does this work with our parcel carrier?

hey circle packaging has been tested and approved by all parcel carriers and runs through the normal sorting process with no surcharge.
